An exciting new Hospitality Leadership initiative has been formed at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, with whom PMR Hospitality Partners have been in discussions with over these past few months. The new Hospitality Leadership Academy – short course Program has been launched as a pilot program in 2017 to assist bring critical senior management learnings to the SA Hospitality Industry. The idea was formulated by Michael Pownall, Managing partner of PMR, and course convenor Johnathan Steyn and is intended to mirror a similar Leadership program launched several years ago for the Wine industry, which has had great success !!
Leading Hospitality Industry players felt that one of the important ‘missing links’ currently within the industry in SA and Southern Africa, is affordable and convenient access to very high quality and relevant, senior management education and development programs (such as offered in the US at Cornell, or from Europe’s leading Hotel Schools), as well as an active Hospitality Leadership academy / think-tank, or indeed networking and mentoring body.
This pilot program will run for three months from August to October 2017, and involve an online bridging component (August), an intensive contact period at the UCT Graduate School of Business in September, followed by a mentorship program and concurrent research project within the delegates company. It is planned that an inaugural Hospitality Leadership Innovation Summit will be held in October to celebrate the initial graduation of 2017 participants, and the forming of an Academy for future Leaders whom can network and be paired with leading industry Mentors.
